Unique Family Christmas Card Ideas
About 20 years ago, my family started changing the way we sent Christmas cards.
We began creating some fun, silly, unique cards, with puns, jokes, or poems.
As the fall approached, the brainstorming began! What would be the theme of this year’s card? What would be a good photo to use?
How could we create some fun for our friends and families that would open them?
These cards were so much fun to create, that over the years it became a treasured tradition, not only as we would create them, but more so the anticipation of sending them!
Let’s have a look at a few we created over the years, and at the end of this post, I have links for other types of cards you can shop for if creating one is not your thing!
Theme your card around a homework problem! Especially one with candy!
Look at commercials and ads for inspiration.
Got Christmas? Add a milk mustache and you’re good to go!
Support a cause or charity!
Create a funny postcard from a trip you took.
Use a newspaper format to share big family news.
Use a favorite book or movie theme. Sometimes more fun goes into the “behind the scenes” of the cards! For this card, we all took a quiz that sorted us into a Hogwarts House from the Harry Potter series. We then bought a sorting hat for my new grandson to wear!
Take a common complaint and turn it into a positive outlook.
Create a recipe for holiday fun or family updates.
Draw pictures or create fun or silly art.
How can you have fun and create bonding activities around your holiday card traditions?
You can also consider…
Have the kids sign or write little notes on the family cards.
Add a little confetti. (A very little so the recipient doesn’t have a huge unexpected mess to clean…lol!)
Gift cards are a fun addition for a little surprise for special people in your life.
Here are some other fun alternatives for unique cards (I’m not an affiliate for these companies, just sharing some of my favorites!)…
Lovepop has great pop-up cards for a special few people on your card list!
Unicef has great cards that support a great cause.
