Fun and Simple Family New Year's Resolutions and How To Stick to Them!
Grab a sticky notepad, a pen, and the family!
Talk about goals or resolutions you may want to have as a family. I have created some easy ones to get you started, but change them or create your own.
Keep your list simple, short, and specific! Putting the goals on a sticky note means you can move them from the fridge if you find a better spot to post them, or you can easily move them to the next month of the family calendar!
Consider having the family sign the note, agreeing as a team to work on the goals as a team!
SUGGESTED FAMILY GOALS
5 minutes a day of fresh air. Why only 5 minutes? It is a small, easy way to start a habit to get outdoors! If it is freezing outside or hot, 5 minutes is a quick breath of fresh air. I bet most days, this will turn into more prolonged bouts of fresh air. Once kids start playing, they lose track of time, or you may opt to go for a family walk or to a park to extend the time. It’s an easy goal to beat!
Fruit or a veggie snack 2 X a day! Rather than reaching for easy but junkie snacks, help your family choose healthier options first and then go for chips or crackers. This does not eliminate family favorite snacks; it just makes reaching for a carrot or banana a bit easier!
Screen-free night 1 X a week. Prepare for this ahead of time. Is there one night that would be ideal for this? Maybe a Friday game night or a mid-week reading and relaxing night? Family schedules are busy, so maybe you can try this once a month or every other week? Here are a few ideas for some screen-free evenings…
Focused Bedtime Routine X 15 min. Bedtime can be a chaotic end of the day. Create a simple checklist to start with. Turn off screens and play relaxing background music to slow the day's energy down. Get pajamas on, brush your teeth, say prayers, or read a short story. Turn the lights down or use a nightlight to prepare. You can set a timer if kids are dragging their feet, or if you need more time, add more time!
What goals will you set as a family this year?
