There’s a lot to love about going on vacation as a family. While the logistics and traveling
can be tricky, it’s a chance to see the world through your children’s eyes, with a sense of
excitement and new found wonder.
You can make new memories as a family, try things you
might not have otherwise done, and watch your children’s confidence (and your own) grow.
The best thing is that it doesn’t matter where you go. Whether you stay local
and try camping or get on a 16-hour flight. There are developmental benefits to every vacation.
Looking for inspiration? In this post, we will cover:
● Active vacations
● City breaks
● Staycations
● The reasons why all of the above may be beneficial for your children
Ready to go? Pack your bags, and let’s get started.
Active vacations
An active breakaway can be a good chance to try out a new sport without committing to signing up for a regular course at home. Plus, depending on where you go,
your kids can access activities they wouldn’t usually be able to in their day-to-day lives,
such as skiing, sailing, or windsurfing. Not only does this give them something fun to talk
about with their friends when they get back, but it can even spark a lifetime interest in
something new and push them out of their comfort zone.
Active vacations can also be a fantastic way for your children to make new friends, as they
are often run in groups. Especially if your child is quiet or shy, having an activity to discuss
can help them come out of their shell and be more social, boosting their interaction skills.
City breaks
Cities are full of cultural and historic sights such as museums, theaters, and even
various restaurants. If you live more rurally, going abroad to a city can
open everyone’s eyes to a different environment. Logistically, as a parent, cities are
also great because they can typically be navigated via public transport or by walking,
meaning you can relax without worrying about getting behind the wheel abroad.
Look out for museums and exhibits aimed at little ones so that their attention is
captured and they stay engaged. There’s no right or wrong way to learn; giving them a
chance to dive into the past and explore a country that isn’t their own in an interactive way
can be a lot more fun than just walking around a gallery.
Staycations
You don’t have to travel halfway around the world to get the benefits of going on vacation.
Staying in your home country can encourage a greater appreciation for the environment your
kids live in. Given the geography of many countries, it can still mean you get to see a
different landscape from your home.
Plus, if this is your first vacation as a family, staying in the same country can also mean less
stress for you as a parent, as well as for children who may be daunted by the idea of flying. If
you’re all more relaxed, you can better enjoy the quality time you spend together.
